November MONTHLY FEATURE: GUN LAKE

I met novelist Travis Thrasher at the June 2008 Write-to-Publish Conference. Before that, I had noticed his intriguing novel, The Second Thief, in a bookstore one day, so I already knew his name. Since then, his novels have impressed a lot of critics with their diversity, ranging from romances to action-adventures to horror stories.

This month’s feature, Gun Lake, spotlights Travis Thrasher in his element, writing a suspense thriller about five escaped convicts who flee to Gun Lake, Michigan, at the same that some other unsuspecting travelers are headed there, each with their own private struggles.

I hope you enjoy it as thoroughly as I did.

October Highlights!

Weekly Blogs in October talked about the dangers of “sexting” and other questionable ways of promoting yourself in “Happy Days”, then suggested to trust the right sources for information – people with a history of being reliable – in The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe Part 1 and Part 2.

Robin Hood talked about avoiding the trap of greed for “a little bit more”, and Monk demonstrated how to face up to an intimidating challenge.

Finally, “Scooby Doo: the Mystery Begins” advised us not to judge people by first impressions, but to take time to find out who they really are.

The Monthly Feature, “Faith Like Potatoes”, talked about humbling ourselves enough to do things God’s way.

And finally, Nicki and I celebrated the publication of our children’s story, “The King’s Mouse”, in the October issue of Clubhouse, Jr. magazine!

Have a safe and happy Halloween!

PUBLISHED!

My wife, Nicki, and I have been waiting for a year to announce this. Our children’s story, “The King’s Mouse”, has been published in the October issue of Clubhouse Jr. magazine! We received notification last October that it would be published, but didn’t want to announce it until it was released. We were surprised and happy to see it featured on the magazine cover!

Based on the Biblical book of Esther, we created this story as the first in a series of children’s picture books. But a Clubhouse Jr. magazine editor suggested condensing it to submit to their magazine. Several grueling re-writes later, we met their word count and sent it off. So we have finally published some fiction! Hopefully we can sell that picture book series somewhere down the road …

Have a great day!
